Summer Fun in Mid-Coast Maine!May 30th, 2013![]() Courtesy of: Take Me 2 Camden This week, and ALL last week, hasn’t really felt like summer. In fact, we’re thinking those “April showers” missed the memo and are making up for it by giving us “May showers” instead. However, today is a beautiful day in Mid-Coast Maine and it’s making us think about the upcoming summer. If you’re planning a trip or move to Maine this summer, here are some fun ideas to consider:
The list doesn’t end here; there is plenty to do in Maine. Each of our real estate agents has a thorough knowledge of the areas in which they work and live and are happy to give you as much information as you’d like! Agent Highlight: Beverly DohertyMay 15th, 2013
Beverly works out of our Belfast office and has been a Jaret and Cohn real estate agent since October 21, 2001. She loves staying busy, and she’s looking forward to this being a great year for sales! Buyers are buying, and it will keep her on her toes this year! If potential buyers ask her about living in Midcoast Maine, she loves to tell them about everything there is to do in the area. Kayaking, hiking, and a number of other outdoor activities are some of the things that she likes to highlight. “There’s so much beauty!” Beverly says of Midcoast Maine. In her free time, Beverly enjoys gardening at her home in Camden and being outside. She recently picked up kayaking; she loves going out on a lake or calm river to relax and decompress. For an example of one of her listings, take a look at her Beaver Pond Road property in Swanville! Gorgeous views of Swan Lake from this 3 bedroom / 2 bathroom Cape!
Visiting the Maine Coast for Memorial Day?May 8th, 2013
Maine’s communities celebrate Memorial Day with parades through towns and ceremonies in honor of their veterans and fallen soldiers. The local parade in Camden goes right by our Jaret and Cohn office! If you’re visiting for the weekend, join the community in their local traditions!
If the weather’s nice, take a trip to one of the local beaches for a picnic. Birch Point State Park in Owls Head, Maine and Laite Beach in Camden, Maine are great locations to enjoy a nice day at the beginning of summer!
Take a leisurely hike, walk, or drive up Mount Battie! Spectacular views of Camden Harbor are a must-see while you’re visiting the area. Edna St. Vincent Millay also wrote her famous poem, “Renascence,” about this view.
You’re in Maine… Why not celebrate Memorial Day with lobsters from a local fisherman instead of hot dogs and hamburgers? Lobsters, corn on the cob, and dinner rolls make for a much better dinner anyway!

Agent Highlight: Wes ReedApril 10th, 2013
Wes moved to Vinalhaven from Mexico, Maine in 1976 and never looked back! Before he started working for Jaret and Cohn in 1985, Wes worked as both a building contractor and an installer of septic systems on Vinalhaven. Our clients appreciate his experience with homes and his knowledge of island living. According to Wes, Vinalhaven is the third largest island off the coast of Maine. The island contains a large grocery store, which often has cheaper prices than the stores on the mainland, a lumber yard, 4 plumbers, and 3 electricians. The island has a population of 1,300 year-round residents; this number grows to 4,000 during the summer. North Haven is about half the size of Vinalhaven, but also boasts many year-round residents and ferry access on a daily basis. “I truly love living here,” Wes said of his home on Vinalhaven. Wes hopes to see the continued increase of serious home buyers. “There’s a confidence that seems to be coming back,” he said of the housing market. Aside from real estate, Wes has a Masters in Fine Arts in Sculpture. He has his own granite business, Vinalhaven Granite Works. He is a member of the Vinalhaven Fire Department, the Vinalhaven Lions Club, and loves collecting antique lighting. He also owns two antique cars, one which is a Model A Ford that he’s had since he was fifteen.

She is a key player in Relay For Life, which will take place June 21-22, 2013 at Camden Hills Regional High School, and actively participates in the food bank collection at Jaret and Cohn Real Estate. Green Home Ideas for St. Patty’s DayMarch 17th, 2013Traditionally, green is associated with St. Patrick’s Day. As much as we love the color green, what are some things that you could do to make your home a little more “green” economically? Looks like you’re in for some of that good ol’ luck of the Irish! Here are some ideas to save energy and reduce your carbon footprint in your homes. 1. Turn off the lights and use natural lighting in your home during the day. In the evening, turn off the lights when you leave the room. 2. Instead of buying plastic, disposable water bottles, buy a reusable water bottle and refill it throughout the day. 3. Wash your laundry in cold water instead of hot. In the summertime, line dry your clothes instead of using the dryer. 4. Shut down your computer at night. 5. Have an energy audit conducted on your home. 6. Pay your bills online to save paper. It’s also more convenient! 7. Support your local economy by shopping at a farmers’ market. 8. Create a home compost bin. 9. Switch your lightbulbs to CFLs. 10. Buy reusable grocery bags at the grocery store for your shopping trips. Decorating your home for St. Patrick’s Day is great, but making your home truly green is even better!
